Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club is a relatively new club. There has, of course, been clubs in the past at "Wickies" but these have gradually declined and petered out. The current club started in February 2005 and is the first 'active' club at "Wickies" this century. The club has some 70 members and meets at the lake on Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings with an evening meeting at the Beeswing Pub in Rockingham Road, Kettering every other Monday. We make and sail all types of boats from 7ft Warships,to Footys, there is a growing number of RG65s and we hold regular Footy league meetings,
but i.c. boats are not allowed on the lake.
The club itself has the use of a purpose made model boating lake some 90m x 30m with the entire lake being accessible by waders. and it has a path with a hard edge all round. Making it sutiable for disabled and wheelchair visitors We have the use of the lake seven days a week and also an indoor secure storage area just a few yards away, as well as a shelter on the lakeside for cover in inclement weather. We have some excellent facilities within the 147 acre park. There are numerous cafes and restaurants and toilets, as well as a First Aid room and baby changing facilities. For visiting skippers this really can be a day out for the whole family.
We are always pleased to see visitors at Wicksteed Park which is the country's first theme park. It also has a large number of free swings, climbing frames slides etc. so you can bring the family and have all day sailing in peace. There is a charge for parking at Wicksteed Park (see the parks web site). If you would like to bring your club, we can make special arrangements for you, and you will be very welcome.
