INTERNATIONAL MODEL BOAT SHOW
WARWICK 2009
In November 2009 Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club attended its first International Show at the Warwick NEC near Leamington Spa. Many members of the club were only too pleased to show their prized boats at this prestigious show, however because we were 'newbies' to the show as a club we had one of the smaller stands in the main hall. On the Thursday afternoon a majority of the model boats were transported by Steve Brown, Nick Brown (who had escaped from RAF Marham for the afternoon) and Bob Maggs.
After the introduction to Karen Kyte, an organiser of the show, we soon arranged the stand into the display everybody saw over the next few days, and waited for the remaining models to arrive on Friday.
Friday arrived, Dennis Hubble, Terry Stagg, and John Pates added their boats to the stand and we waited for the show to start.
For anyone who has never visited the Warwick Show, it is a three day event starting on the Friday at 10am and ending Sunday at 4pm. Over thirty traders normally display their stands, including Dean's Marine, Model Slipway, and Models by Design. The clubs this year included some old faces like Anglia Marine, Black Heath, and the Surface Warship Association whilst there were newer clubs like Wicksteed Park.
The show caters for almost every modeller, varying from warships to pleasure craft, hovercraft to straight-runners, and yachts to rowing boats. On our stand we managed to get a fair representation of all types that sail at Wicksteed Park, and this seems to have worked very well for us. All the Wicksteed park leaflets were handed out within the first two days, visitors stopping members of the club to ask about our water, some were pleasantly surprised to find out that the club still existed!
