Five club members assembled in good time for the first time this year at Wicksteed Park Model Boat Club for an RG65 and similar boat Club Competition. (the numbers were down due to holidays). The course was a set as a double upwind downwind dog bone with spreader buoys at each end. The weather was quite warm with a moderate 10 to 12 mph wind with occasional gusts.

We applied our new approach this time with respect to timing and overall management of the event by giving specific timing calls of eight and one minute calls before the final minute, and then started without delay. This proved that 8 races could easily be achieved in the morning.

There was one new RG65 called Stick of the Sea made by Peter Shepherd, as pictured here on the left. Martin and Arnold had their Jiff 65's and Paul had his Pal Joey. Bob turned up with his Victoria.

We had planned for eight races so as to finish by noon, which we duly did. There was some close racing and eventually we had two ties that were decided on count back

South Midlands Footy League 2011 at Wicksteed Park MBC

We arranged nine events throughout the year and managed to attract two new Footy sailors, Peter Shepherd from the host club and Paul Risdale.  We had at best, nine skippers for our best attended event and four for our worst attended.  The standard of sailing is improving and a very friendly atmosphere has been created for the racing.  Various courses have been set throughout the year, some complex and tricky and others easy.
We have adopted a system of timing throughout the day based on a clockwork egg timer.  This gives a specific time between races before the `final minute';  we even do it for lunch!  The outcome is that the day does not slip away from you and everyone knows when they need to be on the water.
The races are scored as normal with low scores winning and the normal appropriate throw away scores.  However, for the league scoring, the winner gets 50 points and the second 49 and so on.  Again, there are two throw away scores, which in this case are the lower ones.  The following table summarizes the results throughout the year.
The eventual winners were:
We do hope that we get more footy skippers attending in 2012 and we look forward to a friendly series of events next year.
